Course Summary

Media Studies is the ability to create, use, analyse and understand media products, within the context of their audiences and institutions. There will be opportunities to produce your own media products, such as music videos and print artefacts, as informed by your knowledge and understanding. There will be an emphasis on how media texts represent and position audiences. You will analyse a variety of media texts, including independent and mainstream, as well as media texts produced before 1970.

This course has a combination of Non-examined assessment (NEA) components and examinations.

Entry requirements

Students will need to meet the entry requirements of their chosen pathway:

Pathway 1: Five or more GCSE grades 5-9 (including English Language and Maths) for an A-level study programme

Pathway 2: Five or more GCSE grades 5-9 (aiming for a 5 in English Language and Maths) to study two A-level subjects and one Level 3 Diploma/AAQ

Pathway 3: Five or more GCSE grades 4-9 (resitting English Language or Maths if needed) to study one A-level and two Level 3 Diplomas/AAQs or three Level 3 Diplomas/AAQs
