Course Summary

Core Maths is not an A level and you cannot take it if you are already doing A level Maths. It is a Level 3 qualification that is worth half an A level in terms of UCAS points and is designed to support the mathematical knowledge you will encounter in subjects like Geography and Biology. Its focus is on mathematics in the real world and the content is driven by what is useful in other subjects.

Course Details

The following content is covered: Relevant material taken from GCSE Maths; generally applied in new contexts; Problem solving, including the use of real-life starting points; Personal finance; Statistical analysis of data and mathematical literacy; Using ICT to investigate and present mathematical analysis.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Level 3 Mathematical Studies is worth half an A level in terms of UCAS points and is assessed via two external examinations. There is no coursework.

5 grade 6s at GCSE. Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics
