Course Summary

The Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technologies is a qualification designed to develop practical skills and build related theory knowledge within engineering. The course is designed to be broad in content and increase awareness of what a potential engineer will face within the trade.

Specialist Skills include:

Engineering Maths & Science
Environmental Awareness
Engineering Techniques
Electrical/Electronic principles, testing & systems
Welding
Turning/Milling
Computer Aided Design

The development of practical English and Maths skills will be an essential part of your programme. If you do not have GCSE English and Maths at grade C minimum, you will be required to retake these subjects as part of your study programme. IT will be embedded in the delivery of your specialist skills. The study programme will also include Personal and Professional skills that will develop your employability, helping towards finding you a career in the Engineering industry. You will also undertake work experience.

Entry requirements

You will need 3 GCSEs at Grade 3 (D) or above to include English or Maths. In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

Your next steps...

Engineering apprenticeship routes may be available through work-based learning, alternatively full-time engineering level 3 EAL or BTEC programmes with appropriate grades and attendance would be the next natural progression route. Employment would be at setter/operator level requiring regular monitoring and supervision upon completion of this qualification.
