Course Summary
Thinking about a career in the Hairdressing?
The Hairdressing Industry can be demanding career, requiring good health, stamina, a capacity for hard work, a pleasant personality and the ability to get on with people. If you think that you possess these qualities, you want to learn a range of industry skills and you have a genuine interest in this career route then this course is for you. The course also consists of GCSE English & Maths lessons for those not already at a grade 4, and all students study ACE and Century lessons to ensure they are continuously developing their English & maths skills in a contextualised manner, so you leave us with the best possible skills required by employers.
The course will provide you with knowledge, skills and professional behaviours relevant to Hairdressing Industry requirements, many of the underpinning skills will also be relevant in a wide range of customer service settings and are therefore transferable.
Course Details
Course content can include:
Understanding hair structure and the science of how it reacts to a variety of styling methods & products.
Client care & consultation skills including hair, skin & lifestyle analysis.
Shampooing, conditioning & styling hair.
Creating total looks based on themes or colours.
Plaiting hair & hair up styles.
Introduction to hair colouring including the science & theory of colour (this is a L2 unit and has an online, multiple-choice exam), All L1 theory is assessed by assignments, you will therefore need to allow time for home study.
We will introduce you to an industry, where professionalism, creativity and artistry combined with technical skills provide an excellent service experience for your clients. You will develop the behaviours and attitudes expected of a professional hairdresser, from the reception desk to the salon floor,.
There will also be opportunities to enter competitions, listen to guest speakers and attend trips to hair and beauty exhibitions.

We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.
Any specific needs we begin to identify at our welcome events.
Entry requirements
You will need 2 GCSEs at grade 2 (E) or above. Potential candidates must demonstrate their commitment and enthusiasm towards a career within the Hair industry. Each candidate will be considered on their experience, suitability, school reference showing good attendance and behaviour and a practical aptitude test.
Your interview and the college Welcome Events, will provide you with information about:
• The equipment and salon uniform you will need before the start of the course.
• Career paths and further courses available, and give us a chance to get to know you.
If successful in gaining a place you will be required to attend two consecutive Taster Days during the summer, to give you a feel for the course you have chosen.
In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
