Course Summary

This qualification is aimed at people considering a career in health and/or social care with adults or working with children and young people.
You will study a variety of units over one year including:
• Provision of roles in Health, Social Care and Childcare
• Principles and values in Health, Social Care and Childcare
• Awareness of safeguarding
• Introduction to communication
• Awareness of equality and inclusion
• Awareness of health and safety

The development of practical English and Maths skills will be an essential part of your programme. A minimum of 30 hours work experience will be arranged for you in a relevant setting. In addition, if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above in English and/or Maths, you will study for a recognised qualification appropriate to your level e.g. GCSE or Functional Skills. IT will be embedded in the delivery of your specialist skills.
There will be a cost to students of £100 which includes security check (DBS) and course materials, 19+ fees apply.

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved 2 GCSEs at grade 2 (E) or above.
Once at the college you will have to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check. It is not possible to complete the course without satisfactory clearance. It is also a requirement that students on this course are independent workers within the placement settings.

Your next steps...

On completing the qualification, learners who wish to pursue a career in either Health or Social Care or Childcare can progress to other Level 1 or 2 qualifications such as the NCFE CACHE Level 1 Diploma in Caring for Children and the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years practitioner, or the BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Health and Social Care.
