Course Summary
The Further Maths course consists of Pure and Decision Maths. We run the course as an extra A-level in free periods and after school.
At the end of Year 12, students will sit an AS-level in Further Maths so that they have more options in Year 13. Students can then either decide to take the full A-level or just retain the AS-level.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Two exams at the end of Year 12 are on Further Pure and one on Decision.
Four exams at the end of Year 13, two on Further Pure and two on Decision.
Entry requirements
The minimum requirement is 7 GCSE or equivalent passes at grades 9-4 in an appropriate range of subjects, including English Language at grade 4 or above.
The college will accept one BTEC at Merit level as one GCSE equivalent.
Subject specific:
Further Maths requires a GCSE grade 7 or above in Maths.
Your next steps...
You could take this course with an Advanced GCE in Mathematics, to support entry to higher education in Mathematics related areas such as electronics, economics, physics or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer or Financial Adviser. This course also helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the economic and engineering sectors.
