Course Summary

If you are considering a career as a Gym Instructor or Personal Trainer, this is the course for you.

Course Details

This course combines theory and practical work to a high academic level allowing you to progress to working in the industry (including preparation towards self-employment) or university.

You can combine this course with developing yourself as an athlete as part of our sports academies. Alongside the main qualification you will develop other employment and personal development skills ready for the world of work.

Units and modules

There are 12 mandatory units for this course:

  • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
  • Maximising the Customer Experience in a Gym Environment
  • Supporting Client Health and Well-Being
  • Conducting Client Consultations and Gym Inductions
  • Planning and Reviewing Gym-Based Exercise Programmes
  • Instructing and Supervising Gym-Based Exercise Programmes
  • Applied Anatomy and Physiology for Activity, Health and Fitness
  • Client Motivation and Lifestyle Management
  • Programming Personal Training Sessions
  • Delivering Personal Training Sessions
  • Nutrition to Support a Physical Activity Programme
  • Business Acumen for Personal Trainers

This qualification is mapped to the CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer professional standards.

Our sports courses are run at our specialist Sports Campus at Alive Lynnsport, near to the King's Lynn campus.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This course is internally assessed with an externally quality assured portfolio of evidence.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 5 or more GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including English and maths

Or:

  • A relevant Level 2 qualification to merit grade with good attendance and progress reviews
