Course Summary
If you are interested in working as a chef within the hospitality industry, this course will provide you with the skills and experience needed to gain employment, and is an excellent preparation for working in the industry.
Course Details
It is a busy and practical course with real working experience in our own Novus Restaurant and kitchens. To help prepare you to progress into the industry, you will take part in one evening dinner service per week (currently on a Thursday) for the public at the Novus Restaurant from 5pm - 9pm.
Whilst working towards this diploma, you will be able to develop skills in many areas including:
- How to prepare and cook industry standard dishes
- Food safety
- Food and drink service
- Customer service skills
- Legislation
- How to work in a team (essential in any busy kitchen)
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Progress on the course is measured through a number of written assignments and short answer tests. Students will also have practical assessments.
This qualification will be graded Pass/Merit/Distinction.
Entry requirements
You will need:
- 4 or more GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including catering and either/or English and maths
Or:
- A relevant Level 1 qualification studied at CWA or another further education provider. This does not include level 1 courses studied at school alongside GCSEs.
