Course Summary

This qualification has been developed with progression to working in the industry in mind. It develops practical skills, promotes sound work practices and provides essential industry knowledge to help you progress into higher levels of learning or employment.

This course at the Wisbech Campus is now at capacity and is closed for September 2025.

Course Details

What will I study?

  • Promote and maintain the health and wellbeing of animals
  • Plan the handling and restraint of animals
  • Monitor an devaluate the accommodation of animals
  • Plan diets and feeding regimes for animals
  • Plan the establishment and management of wild animal populations
    Recognize and interpret the behaviour of animals
  • Design individual training programmes for animals

Learners completing this course will need to complete a number of individual study hours on their course work each week, due to the course being portfolio based.

In order to achieve this qualification attendance and organisation is important

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Your course will be assessed through theory and practical sessions and assignments / assessments. You will build a portfolio of evidence throughout the year.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 5 or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or higher, with at least one Grade 4 in either English or maths

Or:

  • A relevant Level 2 in Animal Care at merit grade studied at CWA or another further education provider. This does not include level 2 courses studied at school alongside GCSEs.
