Moving on to Independence - Entry Level

Our bridge to independence courses are programmes of further education for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

This course is designed with you in mind, as a young adult with the potential to advance and a strong desire to keep learning in a safe and supported environment. The Moving on to Independence course is geared toward assisting you in reaching your full potential through the process of learning.

The nationally recognised qualification you'll earn is set up to help you develop practical skills and knowledge. It's tailored to prepare students like you for adult life, further training, work, and semi-independent living.The curriculum allows for experience in independent cooking, budgeting, household tasks, shopping for daily living, health, safety, hygiene and a range of other life and living skills.

Assessment is an on-going process and is regular throughout the academic year. Initially you will be assessed on an individual basis by your tutors.

Progress is measured through subject specific targets and through the verification of completed units. Subject specific targets are agreed with you according to your own individual needs.

These targets are regularly reviewed and updated via the online PDP system. You will be given the opportunity to log in and view your own targets and progress regularly.

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, you will be expected to show a positive attitude to learning.

Following a successful interview a taster session can be arranged. This will provide a further opportunity to assess whether the programme will be able to meet your specific needs.
