Course Summary

If you are interested in pursuing a career in motor vehicle service and repair, and car mechanics, this course is for you.

Course Details

The course will engage and motivate you, as you learn about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry. The course is practical and includes many visual questioning techniques which will stimulate and interest you. The learning outcomes are assessed by a variety of task-based assessments, observation, oral questioning and online assessments.

The course offers a comprehensive grounding in both theory and practical aspects of motor vehicle repair. This includes:

  • Aspects of customer care and health and safety
  • Aspects related to engines
  • Electrical units
  • Chassis units and transmission units

Please note that, due to workshop availability, this course at the King's Lynn campus might run into the evening for one day a week (no later than 7pm).

How will it be delivered and assessed?

A portfolio of practical and theory based exercises will be produced. In addition, there are externally set on-line tests to complete.
50% of learning outcomes and assessments are workshop based activities.
All learning outcomes are assessed on real jobs after competence has been assessed.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and maths

Most students on the course have previously studied Motor Vehicle & Engineering - Level 1 at CWA or another further education provider. This does not include level 1 courses studied at school alongside GCSEs.
