Course Summary

If you are interested in pursuing a career in engineering or motor vehicle service and repair, this course is for you.

Course Details

The course will develop the skills and understanding needed to enable you to progress in the engineering or motor vehicle industries. A lot of time is spent in the practical workshops so that you have the opportunity to practice and master the hand skills needed in the engineering and motor vehicle industries. This is backed up by classes which focus on the understanding and knowledge behind your practical work.

You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning as this will help you to develop the skills to be mature and independent at work. You will be expected to be keen and interested enough to work hard without being continually monitored. You will also be expected to become more self-reliant and better organised as the course progresses.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Different assessment methods include:

  • Written tests, involving short and long answer structured questions - open-ended and long answer questions

  • Reports

  • Reviews and case studies

  • Practical exercises

  • Involving oral and written reports

  • Reflective logs

  • Practical assignments (assessed for process, as well as product)

  • End of unit multiple-choice question papers

  • Workplace evidence

  • Professional discussion (structured and recorded)

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • If you're attending the King's Lynn campus, you will be expected to have 4 GCSEs at grade 2 and above (including English and Maths). Otherwise, you can consider our new Introduction to Motor Vehicle and Engineering course which has no entry requirements.

  • At the Wisbech campus, there are no entry requirements but will be expected to show:

  • A good attitude towards learning and a willingness
to progress, including in English and Maths (if
    applicable)

  • A keen interest in the subject and a commitment to
    working hard

We will invite you to attend an information session and applicant experience day (if you have been offered a place before May) before you start your course to help ensure that this is the best course for you.
