Course Summary
Our Level 1 Introduction to Horse Care & Equine course is an excellent first step for those new to the industry with an interest working with and learning about horses.
Course Details
What will I study on this course?
On this introductory qualification you will build a foundation of knowledge and skills necessary for work and study in the equine industry.
The units covered include:
- Maintain the health of horses
- Assist with the movement and handling of horses
- Grooming horses
- Mucking out and bedding down (preparing and maintaining animal accommodation)
- Feeding and watering horses
- Safe and effective working practices when working with horses
You can expect to participate in a blend of theoretical study and practical work to secure and embed your understanding.
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression to further study such as our Level 2 Horse Care (Equine Studies) course.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
This programme is continually assessed by a combination of written tasks, projects and demonstration of competence in a range of practical tasks.
Entry requirements
Whilst there are no general grade entry requirements for our level 1 programmes, you will be expected to show:
- A good attitude towards learning and a willingness to progress, including in English and maths (if applicable)
- A keen interest in the subject and a commitment to working hard
You will be invited to an information session and applicant experience day (if you have been offered a place before May) before you start your course to help ensure this is the best course for you.
