Course Summary
Whether you're just starting out in the hair and beauty industry or want to move into it after school, this is the course for you! You can start your career with this level 1 course and receive a qualification after one year of study and the opportunity to progress to a higher level!
Course Details
During this course you will gain an understanding of some of the basics and important aspects of hairdressing, beauty therapy and the industry. At both our King's Lynn and Wisbech campuses, you'll have the opportunity to practice in our specialist salons which are set up ready to help you progress into the industry.
What is covered in this course?
The course covers the following:
- Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
- Presenting a professional image
- Shampooing and conditioning
- Styling Women's Hair
- Application of temporary colour
- Plaiting and twisting
- Health and Safety
- Working with others
- Reception
- Art of dressing hair
- Art of colouring
- Skincare
- Manicures and Pedicures
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessments are carried out using four methods:
- Observation of practical competence
- Short assignments
- Oral questioning
- Written mandatory tests
A portfolio of work is built up during the course and used as part of the assessment process.
Entry requirements
Whilst there are no general grade entry requirements for our level 1 programmes, you will be expected to show:
- A good attitude towards learning and a willingness to progress, including in English and Maths (if applicable)
- A keen interest in the subject and a commitment to working hard
We will invite you to attend an information session and applicant experience day (if you have been offered a place before May) before you start your course to help ensure that this is the best course for you.
