Application Instructions

Students should submit applications by 18 December 2026.

Applications will remain open throughout the year and late applications will be considered; however, students should be aware that they may not receive their preferred choices if a late application is received.

Once applications have been received, all applicants will be invited for an interview to discuss their application and ensure that their subject choices are suitable.

Course Summary

A-Level Geography offers a selection of new; interesting topics not covered at GCSE level and allows you to go into greater depth in some key elements previously studied. It covers both the physical and human environments and the complex interaction of processes that shape our world.

Component 1 – Physical Geography

• Glacial systems and landscapes

Component 2 – Human Geography

• Global systems and global governance

• Changing places

• Contemporary urban environments

• Population and the environment

• Resource security

Component 3 – Geography Fieldwork Investigation (NEA)

All students are required to undertake an independent investigation. This must incorporate a significant element of fieldwork. The fieldwork undertaken as part of the individual investigation may be based on either human or physical aspects of geography, or a combination of both.

Paper 1 - 40% written exam

Paper 2 - 40% written exam

NEA 20% of A Level

Entry requirements

5 GCSE passes at grade 5 or above. You will need a grade 6 in Geography.

If you choose to take Geography on to university, there are many courses to choose from. Geography graduates have one of the highest rates of graduate employment, and have diverse career opportunities across urban planning, environmental management, GIS, academia, government and private sectors.

Employment can include careers in transport, utilities and infrastructure, along with finance and management consultancy to name a few.
