Course Summary
This course is designed for young people like you who might find a mainstream environment challenging but are keen to advance in education. It is a specialised provision tailored for young people with emotional, behavioural, and social difficulties. You will be in the right environment to further develop your independence, personal and social skills.
Course Details
This course enables you to develop independence, personal, and social skills through engaging activities related to sport, fitness, and leisure. The curriculum covers a variety of topics, including healthy living, using social and leisure facilities, overcoming challenges and learning how to use your strengths.
Class sizes are kept small to ensure personalised attention, and support is available both during and outside of sessions as needed. The programme also offers opportunities to work towards independent or semi-independent travel, enhancing your mobility and confidence.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is ongoing and consistent throughout the year, this is evident via an initial screening process and then regularly via the Personal Development Plan. You will be assessed on an individual basis by the tutor and through the verification of completed portfolio units. The online PDP system allows you to log in and view your progress and targets so you are always aware of your individual achievement to date. Three progress reviews and regular staff meetings ensure that the assessment and review process continues to map individual progression.
Entry requirements
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, you are required to show willingness to learn, participate in and develop skills in a college environment. Following an interview it is expected that you will attend a taster session to determine suitability for the course and to ensure that your needs are met.
