Course Summary
This course is designed for young people whom may struggle with a mainstream environment, but are keen to progress with their education in a specialised provision for young people with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties.
Course Details
The course enables you to continue to develop independence, personal and social skills. The types of topics the curriculum includes are healthy living, handling money, personal safety, using social and leisure facilities, self-awareness, dealing with problems and completing tasks. Class sizes are small and support is available both in and outside of sessions, as appropriate. The programme also offers the opportunity to work towards independent/semi-independent travel. You will also be given the opportunity to participate in an enterprise initiative.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is ongoing and consistent throughout the year, this is evident via an initial screening process and then regularly via the Personal Development Plan. You will be assessed on an individual basis by the tutor and through the verification of completed portfolio units. The online PDP system allows you to log in and view your progress and targets so you are always aware of your individual achievement to date. Three progress reviews and regular staff meetings ensure that the assessment and review process continues to map individual progression.
Entry requirements
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, you are required to show willingness to learn, participate in and develop skills in a college environment. Following an interview it is expected that you will attend a taster session to determine suitability for the course and to ensure that your needs are met.
