Course Summary
This course is designed for young people who might find regular school challenging but are keen to advance in education. It is a specialised provision set up for young people who might struggle with their feelings, behaviour, or making friends. You will be in the right environment to grow more independent and get better at things like taking care of yourself, working and hanging out with others.
Course Details
You will explore a range of subjects all designed to help you get ready for a job; like building self-esteem, managing your finances, trying out different jobs and getting involved in our community. We often adapt units to fit with your needs and aspirations.
At our Downham Market site class sizes are small and we're here to support you whenever you need it, as appropriate. Our ethos is built around helping you to achieve your potential.
Work experience is a big part of this course, as we believe you can go on to get a job or do an internship once you finish your year with us. So get ready to learn and have some fun along the way!
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment on the main qualification is ongoing and consistent throughout the year; we'll start with a quick check to see where you're at and set some goals. You will be assessed on an individual basis by the tutor and through the verification of completed portfolio units.
You can log in to LEARN anytime to see how you're doing and what's next for you.
There are three progress reviews to see how you're doing and regular meetings with staff to keep track of your progression.
Work experience is assessed through a journal and reflection approach. Feedback will be sought from employers.
Maths and English may have elements that are completed via examination. You can access special exam considerations through our ALS team if required.
Entry requirements
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, you are required to show willingness to learn, participate in and develop skills in a college environment. Following an interview, it is expected that you will attend a taster session to determine suitability for the course and to ensure that your needs are met.
