Course Summary
This course is for those who are interested in Computing and Information Technology (IT). You do not need to have any previous experience with computers, as this course will prepare you from the very beginning.
Course Details
What will I study?
The course is intended as a practical 'hands on' programme to help you prepare for further study before going into a career in the IT field and includes some elements of personal and social development.
- How to use graphics software, such as Photoshop
- How to use Microsoft Office software (Word, Powerpoint & Excel) effectively to produce documents to a professional standard.
- How to design, create and test a website.
- Practical skills involving PC Maintenance.
This programme of study also provides you with the opportunity of gaining Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) qualifications.
Further study (additional classroom sessions) in Maths and/or English are built into the timetable for those who are still working towards these subjects.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
There are a number of internal assessments for this qualification.
Additionally there will be external exams for functional English and maths.
Entry requirements
Whilst there are no general grade entry requirements for our level 1 programmes, you will be expected to show:
- A good attitude towards learning and a willingness to progress, including in English and maths (if applicable)
- A keen interest in the subject and a commitment to working hard
You will be invited to an information session and applicant experience day (if you have been offered a place before May) before you start your course to help ensure this is the best course for you.
