A LEVEL AND LEVEL 3 QUALIFICATIONS

To gain a place on this course students will ideally have at least grade 4 in both English Language and Mathematics and at least three other GCSEs, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications, at grade 5 or above. Some subjects also have additional entry requirements.

All students are to choose 3 subjects from 3 different blocks. Further Mathematics may be taken as a fourth choice.



LEVEL 2 QUALIFICATIONS

Subjects have individual entry requirements.

Students only need to apply for either Bricklaying or Hairdressing.

Do you dream of being a fashion designer?

Are you always looking at the next trends and catwalk shows? The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Art and Design (Fashion & Textiles) course will give you an introduction into the specialist skills required to become part of the expanding British Fashion/Textiles Industry. You will practice industry standard techniques in pattern cutting, garment production, fabric manipulation, surface decoration and develop design concepts and practical skills in clothing manufacture.

You will work in sketchbooks using the design cycle to develop ideas into products of a professional standard. By the end of the course you will have built a comprehensive portfolio of Fashion & Clothing garments.

No examination.

Artist and Designer Research Investigations
Fashion Portfolio.
End of Year Fashion Show.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment: Students are continually assessed throughout the course. Assessment takes many different forms, both written and verbal. There are designated assessment points throughout the year when units of study are assessed against the Level 3 Certificate grading criteria. Each unit is graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

The Level 3 Certificate qualification is the vocational equivalent to one ‘A’ level.

Year One

Unit 2 - Critical and Contextual Studies in Art and Design—Task set by BTEC. Externally Assessed

Unit 14- Textiles Materials, Techniques and Processes—Task set by Fashion/Textiles Teacher.

Internally Assessed.

Year Two

Unit 3 - The Creative Process—Task set by Fashion/Textiles Teacher. Internally Assessed.

Unit 1 - Visual Recording and Communication—Task set by BTEC. Externally Assessed

Entry requirements

  • Grade 4 in Mathematics and English Language plus three other GCSEs at grade 5 or above.
  • Art /Textiles is an advantage.
