A LEVEL AND LEVEL 3 QUALIFICATIONS
To gain a place on this course students will ideally have at least grade 4 in both English Language and Mathematics and at least three other GCSEs, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications, at grade 5 or above. Some subjects also have additional entry requirements.
All students are to choose 3 subjects from 3 different blocks. Further Mathematics may be taken as a fourth choice.
LEVEL 2 QUALIFICATIONS
Subjects have individual entry requirements.
Students only need to apply for either Bricklaying or Hairdressing.
Course Details
DANCE
The Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative and Performing Arts provide learners with skills, knowledge and understanding for entry to employment in the creative and performing arts industries or progression to further study at a higher level. Students are expected to select two additional subjects at A Level alongside the Level 3 Diploma. Students are required to complete 7 units throughout the two years of study. Assessment is continuous and coursework based. Students do not have to have completed Dance at KS4 to access the course.
The Diploma carries the equivalent of 1.5 A Levels in UCAS points.
Level 3 Diploma UCAS points:
Distinction Star—84, Distinction—72, Merit—48, Pass—24
In comparison to A Level UCAS points:
A*— 56, A—48, B—40, C—32, D—24.
These are rigorous advanced (Level 3) technical qualifications, on a par with A Levels and recognised by employers. Diplomas are for post-16 students wishing to specialise in a specific industry, occupation or occupational group. They equip a student with specialist knowledge and skills, enabling entry to employment or progression to a related higher education course.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
One external unit: CAPA 304 Performance Preparation (180 GLH): you will respond to an exam paper and prepare for a final performance.
CAPA 306 Planning for a Career in the Creative and Performing Arts (90GLH). You will devise your own career plan and produce a strategy and resources. You will create your own CV, create an audition solo, show reel, and take part in an audition
CAPA 322 Applying Safe Dance Practice. You will look at the risks and hazards facing dancers in training, the healthy body, warm-up and cooling down, injury prevention and you will devise and lead your own warm-up and cool-down.
CAPA 324 Choreography . You will train, rehearse and develop your skills as a choreographer and reflect on your own choreographic practice to create your own duet/group piece.
CAPA 331 Ensemble Dance Performance. You will learn, rehearse and perform an original piece created by your artistic director. You will also select a dance work to inspire you and to re-imagine.
CAPA 334 Leading Dance. You will plan, lead and evaluate dance classes.
CAPA 335 Repertory Dance Performance. You will recreate a professional piece of repertoire.

Grade 6 in Dance (if studied at KS4) and 5 in English.
