Application Instructions

A LEVEL AND LEVEL 3 QUALIFICATIONS

To gain a place on this course students will ideally have at least grade 4 in both English Language and Mathematics and at least three other GCSEs, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications, at grade 5 or above. Some subjects also have additional entry requirements.

All students are to choose 3 subjects from 3 different blocks. Further Mathematics may be taken as a fourth choice.



LEVEL 2 QUALIFICATIONS

Subjects have individual entry requirements.

Students only need to apply for either Bricklaying or Hairdressing.

Course Details

FINE ART

The course is for anyone who would like to continue to develop their art and design skills and knowledge as they move into A level study. The Fine Art course has a broad based focus area and gives you the opportunity to work in a wide variety of media including digital, sculpture, collage, ICT & mixed media as well as more traditional painting, drawing and printing techniques. You will be encouraged to develop your creativity based on solid basic skills learnt at GCSE level. A Level Fine Art is an exciting and popular course which attracts large numbers of students in the Sixth Form, it encourages independence, creativity and a passion for producing a visual response to an open theme.
Throughout the course we aim to:

  • Develop your skills and ability.
  • Encourage an imaginative and independent response to a theme or brief.
  • Develop a full and successful portfolio.
  • Provide you with opportunities to work and participate with professionals in industry and as professionals on our residential annual trips.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The A-level qualification is achieved by completing all units of the course.

Year 12

This consists of two units of work, organized around a broad- based theme. Students will have the opportunity to generate practical work and ideas from primary and contextual sources. Students will experiment with media and presentation of their final outcomes.

Year 13

Again this consists of one units of work, which is thematic based. Building on the experience of Year 12 work, students will further develop skills and an independent response based on their individual areas of specialization. Students will need to produce a written essay to accompany their individual pathways for their coursework.

Unit 2 Externally set assignment

All units are internally marked and externally moderated. Students will complete a thematic based project and complete a final piece in a 15hr exam, all preparation material is assessed.

Equipment required

Students will be asked to purchase an art pack from the school shop at the start of year 12 which will be approximately £30.00
