Course Summary
A level Physics aims to consolidate and extend learning of themes from the GCSE course and develop these further, piquing interest in new and exciting areas of research ,such as theoretical and quantum physics and cosmology, deepening understanding of established topics, such as electricity and forces and strengthening the links between key concepts, leading on to larger overarching topics that may span across a number of other subject areas such as Chemistry, Maths, PE, Technology and Engineering.
Course Details
The course has a compulsory component of assessed practical's and an assessed lab book which must satisfy the exam board criteria to allow awarding of the A level with ‘practical endorsement’ desired by universities nationally. These assessed practical's allows you to develop practical, analysis and evaluative skills as well as introducing the statistical analysis necessary for university undergraduate study.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The qualification is assessed through 3 written exams at the end of Year 13.
Paper 1: Modelling Physics, 2hr 15 mins. (37% of total)
Paper 2: Exploring Physics 2 hr 15 mins (37% of total)
Paper 3: Unified Physics 1hr 30mins (26% of total)
Entry requirements
5 GCSE’s grade 4 and above including Grade 6,6 in Combined Science (Trilogy) Higher
Or,
Grade 6 in Triple Science Physics and 6 in one other Science subject
A high passing grade in Maths and English are also required.
