Why study Economics?

By studying A-Level Economics you will develop a broad range of skills applicable to your future life and career. This includes an understanding of the key economic factors which influence the world in which we live as well as the ability to analyse economic data.

Course Details

What will I study?

As part of the economics course you will learn how to explain and evaluate economic problems and possible solutions. You will acquire a way of thinking as an economist and develop a logical approach to reasoning.

As part of the course you will study:

Component 1: Microeconomics

• Introduction to microeconomics

• The role of markets

• Business objectives

• Market structures

• The labour market

Component 2: Macroeconomics

• Aggregate demand and aggregate supply

• Economic policy objectives

• Implementing policy

• The global context

• The financial sector

Component 3: Themes in Economics

You will draw together your knowledge and skills to answer questions from across all content areas.



How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment

At the end of the course you will complete three two hour written exams, based on the components above, each equivalent to 33.3%.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

5 x 5s

4 in English and Maths

Subject Specific Entry Requirements:

6 in Math GCSE

* Please note that Level 2 vocational courses are the equivalent of 1 GCSE and only 1 will be counted towards the A-Level pathway entry requirements
