Why study Biology?

Biology is the study of living organisms and how these interact with each other and their environments. It literally means 'the study of life'! You will learn about the natural world and the interrelationships between the living things within it. Biology may be for you if you are interested in the human body or fascinated by animals and the world around us. There has never been a more exciting time to be studying Biology.

What will I study?

The Biology course is divided into 6 modules starting with the Foundations in Biology. Topics you can expect to cover will include learning about cells, biochemistry, organisms and their environment, genetics, evolution and ecosystems. You will also have the opportunity to develop your practical skills in Biology through a number of experiments and practical applications, such as using microscopes.

5 x 5s

4 in English and Maths

Subject Entry Requirements:

6 in GCSE Biology if doing single sciences

Or 6,7 in GCSE Double Science

6 in GCSE Maths

* Please note that Level 2 vocational courses are the equivalent of 1 GCSE and only 1 will be counted towards the A-Level pathway entry requirements

What can Biology lead on to?

Biology can equip you to pursue a degree and career in many fields such as medicine, research science, zoology, marine biology, pharmacy, ecology and many more. Studying Biology not only provides routes into specific subjects and careers for the future but also gives each student opportunities to gain a wide range of transferable skills such as researching, working with a team, evaluating information and carrying out data analysis.
