The IBDP is a challenging two-year course aimed at students aged 16-19. It leads to a qualification that is widely welcomed by the world’s leading universities and employers.
IB students learn more than a collection of facts. The Diploma Programme prepares students for further study and employment like no other qualification and encourages them to ask searching questions, learn how to learn, develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture, and develop the ability to communicate with and respect people from other countries and cultures.
Students should select three Higher Level subjects to study (the equivalent of three A Levels) and three Standard Level subjects. As well as being a more broad qualification, this keeps myriad options open in terms of university courses.
What makes us different?
We believe our students need the education we provide, but more than that, we believe the world needs our students. Do come and visit us and find out how the International Baccalaureate can help you imagine your future. We’re a busy, happy, unique community in the heart of Cambridge, and you’ll be made very welcome.
Why should you make the International Baccalaureate Diploma your sixth form choice?
At Parkside Sixth we don’t want you to be defined by just three A Level subjects, we want your next two years to open up a world of opportunities, to let your imagination define your future. We will challenge you not just to think about the person you’ll be when you are 18, but the person you’ll be at 80 and at every stage of a rich and rewarding life.
Our teachers are passionate about the engaging and vibrant International Baccalaureate qualification. We don’t want to be a one-dimensional exam factory, a by-the-numbers sixth form. We have no time for narrow definitions of education because we understand the potential of each student’s unique perspective. “A single candle can light a thousand others without diminishing its own lustre,” said the Buddha. We agree.
There is, however, no question of compromise in academic study. The highest ranking universities in the UK receive our students, with students scoring above 40 points in the IB Diploma. But for other students, a different score and a new, exciting home other than Cambridge or Oxford, in the UK or internationally, is an equal or even greater achievement. We do not hide that fact: we celebrate it.
We want our students to learn, reflect and grow in a sixth form which has an unambiguous mission and that delivers a values driven education. Only the International Baccalaureate Diploma, we believe, equips students with the skills, ambition and compassion to impact ethically and significantly in a global context.
