Course Summary

You will study eleven units. These units will give you an understanding of sport in the wider contexts of coaching, leadership, performance analysis and psychology.

Whilst much of this course is taught alongside the single A-level option, on completion of this diploma course, you will receive a double qualification, the equivalent of 2 A-Levels.



Course Details

You will study eleven units made up of a combination of three exams and eight coursework units:

• Body systems and the effects of physical activity - Exam

• Sports coaching and activity leadership - Coursework

• Sports organisation and development – Exam

• Working safely in sport, exercise, health and leisure – Exam

• Performance analysis in sport and exercise – Coursework

• Organisation of sports events – Coursework

• Exercise for specific groups – Coursework

• Health and fitness testing for sport and exercise – Coursework

• Sports injuries and rehabilitation – Coursework

• Practical skills in sport and physical activity – Coursework (Practical)

• Sport and exercise psychology – Coursework

These units will give you an understanding of sport in the wider contexts of coaching, leadership, performance analysis and psychology. Many units draw on previous learning from Cambs Nat Level 2 qualifications in Sport Studies and Sport Science.

Whilst much of this course is taught alongside the single A-level option, on completion of this diploma course, you will receive a double qualification, the equivalent of 2 A-Levels.

Note: There is only 1 unit focusing on your practical performance. The rest of the course is taught through theory and theory based practical lessons (e.g. coaching younger students).


How will it be delivered and assessed?

These qualifications are assessed using a combination of:

• external assessment (exam)

• internal assessment (coursework)


Entry requirements

It is recommended that learners starting this qualification will have achieved sport or physical education qualifications for example GCSEs in PE at grade 4/5 or above or level 2 vocational qualifications, e.g. OCR Level 2 Cambridge National in Sports Studies or Sport Science Level 2 Merit or above. It is also recommended that you have grade 4 or above in Maths and English GCSE.
