Course Summary
The IB language programme offers the opportunity for students to learn a language from scratch. This is useful for students who have not had the opportunity to learn a modern foreign language before; it is also a good opportunity to either complement another language you already speak, or to open up completely new horizons. The emphasis of the ab initio course is on practical language use, developing the ability to speak and write adequately the target language in day-to-day situations. Russian, Spanish and Japanese are all well established as Ab Initio language B. Progress is brisk, and a good range of basic structures and vocabulary provides a sound foundation in the language and culture. There is an established exchange link with a school in Zaragoza, allowing Spanish students the opportunity to stay with a Spanish family.
