Course Summary

If you are interested in working in any of the Uniformed Services, e.g. ambulance, fire, police, armed services, this course will provide a solid start to your career.

Course Details

All students will take the following units:

  • A1 - Being organised
  • A2 - Developing a Personal Progression Plan
  • A3 - Working with others
  • A4 - Research project
  • P55 - Finding out about Public Services
  • P56 - Taking part in Fitness Testing
  • P57 - Carrying out Security Services
  • P58 - Responding to an incident
  • P59 - Planning and navigating a route
  • P512- Taking part in sport and adventurous activities

All students will take physical training, a mandatory part of the course, to help increase fitness levels to ensure they can pass a Uniformed Services fitness test. This will include:

  • Running.
  • Circuit training.
  • Fitness training in a weights room.
  • There will also be many opportunities to participate in team activities on the obstacle course.

Other activities or visits

Other activities throughout the year will include:

  • Inter-group competitions (Cross country, log-run, competition Day).
  • Police Riot Training.
  • Visiting Service speakers.

All students will be given the opportunity to spend time away with the Armed Forces looking at various trades within them. These will include:

  • RAF Honington.
  • Commando Training Centre Royal Marines.
  • Royal Navy.

You will also visit the local fire station and have the option of completing a Duke of Edingburgh (DofE) award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level. There are a number of other opportunities that develop through the year.

There are some optional costs for this course for trips and awards. All costs are approximate and will be confirmed closer to the time of the event. Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award

Bronze award: £120
Silver award: £200
Gold award: £400

Optional trips

Orienteering and camping at the Peak District - £50
Mountain biking at Thetford forest - £25

Other trips may be available throughout the year.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

To qualify for the qualification you will need to complete a portfolio of evidence for all unit work, which is assessed regularly.

You will also complete 60 hours work experience alongside this course.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 3 or more GCSEs at grade 2 or higher

Or:

  • Entry Level qualifications

You will be invited to an interview to help us ensure the course is right for you.
