Course Summary
A-level Physical Education provides an in-depth exploration of the factors that influence performance and participation in physical activity and sport. Students will study a range of scientific and socio-cultural topics including applied anatomy and physiology, exercise science, biomechanics, skill acquisition, sport psychology, and the relationship between sport, society, and technology. This will be assessed over 2 exams worth 70% of the final grade.
The course includes both theoretical and practical components. The non-exam assessment will assess students in one approved physical activity as either a performer or a coach, with marks awarded for technical execution, tactical understanding, and decision-making under competitive conditions. In addition, students complete an in-depth performance analysis, applying theoretical knowledge to evaluate strengths and identify areas for improvement. The non-exam assessment is worth 30% of the final grade.
The course is well suited to those considering further study or careers in sport science, teaching, physiotherapy, performance analysis, personal trainer, coaching or other related fields.
Entry requirements
Students will be required to have a grade 6 or above in GCSE Physical Education and a grade 6 or above in Science
