Course Summary

This is a level 1 employability course that helps to develop young people's personal and social skills and resilience for working life.

Young people following this pathway will take a City & Guilds qualification in Employability at level 1 and a City & Guilds qualification in maths and English or a functional skills or GCSE depending on their ability and current qualifications on entry.

The programme offers the chance to develop skills for life including home skills and cooking as well as enterprise skills through project based work.

There is a strong emphasis on developing social skills and social confidence as well as team work and personal resilience.

This course is particularly suitable for young people who have lost their confidence or are unsure about which path they want to take. The highly supportive and small class sizes offers the opportunity to develop self- awareness and self-esteem.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT will be assessed by examination. Some students will have the opportunity to complete a GCSE in English and maths.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but students will need to able to work towards Level 1 in English and maths and have an interest in returning to study/training. Students will need to attend an informal interview and taster day. In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
