Our Music Extended Certificate gives you a taste of what it is to work in the music industry. As a music student, you will be playing and performing in ensemble groups, both in and out of the college. You will learn the requirements of working within a creative field using a practical approach, while developing your knowledge of the career opportunities that are available in this constantly evolving industry. If you are ultimately aiming to progress into a career in the music or creative sectors, then this course is designed for you!

This course is available to study as an Extended Certificate (60-credit course, equivalent to 1 A Level)

You will develop skills that are valued in all areas of work, such as performance techniques, communication skills and team work. You will have the opportunity to focus on your personal vocal/instrumental technique and then combine your skills with those of others in ensemble rehearsals and performances. The course is taught within excellent purpose-built facilities, equipped with computers with audio and MIDI interfaces, acoustic and electric pianos, PA systems, amplifiers, drum kits and additional percussion. Performances will take place in our professionally lit and sound-engineered music stage.

There is also a wealth of opportunities to explore creative and professional performance opportunities in our many music enrichment programmes, such as open mic events, formal concerts and recording sessions.

Your next steps...

This course, in combination with other applied courses or A Levels, will qualify you to progress to university, and many students who study Music at Long Road choose to continue with music on this route.

From these, the majority choose to study for a music degree at one of the increasing number of contemporary music colleges, but you would also be qualified for a more traditional university course.

You may instead opt for an apprenticeship, of which there are several available in larger music venues, recording studios or record labels.
