It is essential that you purchase a graphical calculator for studying this course. The college can purchase one for you at a reduced rate. The graphical calculator that we recommend for use is a TI-84 Plus from Texas Instruments.

Course Summary

Mathematics: Applications and interpretation course will be offered at both SL and HL for students who are interested in developing their mathematics for describing our world, modelling and solving practical problems using the power of technology. Students who take Mathematics: Applications and interpretation will be those who enjoy mathematics best when seen in a practical context. Standard level (SL): This class is most similar to the current Mathematical Studies SL course. Higher level (HL): This course will include new content, including statistics. It is intended to meet the needs of students whose interest in mathematics is more practical than theoretical but seek more challenging content.

How will it be delivered and assessed?


Entry requirements

HIGHER LEVEL

This course is suitable if you have 6/7 at GCSE. It is a fast-paced course which covers more than the A level.

STANDRAD LEVEL

This course is suitable if you have a 5 or above at GCSE .


International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme We require at least seven GCSEs with an average of Grade 6, including English Language and Maths. For subjects you wish to take at higher level you will need at least a grade 6. International Baccalaureate Career Programme We require at least five subjects at GCSE Grade 5 or higher, ideally including Mathematics and English and preferably with a grade 5 in your area of specialism. Strong interest in the vocational BTEC subject will need to be in evidence at the guidance meeting.
