Course Summary

To become a well-rounded citizen of the world, to know yourself and understand why the societies we live in exist as they do. This is the purpose of history, whether you appreciate the narrative or depth of detail and knowledge acquired in historical study, or are keen to engage in political debates centred on historical exemplars, history at A level is the course for any aspiring philosopher, politician or academic, never mind historian!

History works best alongside a study of Government and Politics.

Course Details

  • Germany and West Germany 1918- 1989.
  • Italy, Unification and The Rise and Fall of Fascism 1911-46.
  • Protest, Agitation and Parliamentary Reform in Britain 1780-1928.

Coursework: Students will be able to complete an extended research project on any theme that will constitute a part of their final A-level grade.

Our sixth form cultural trip is always centred on historical and cultural development.

Your next steps...

History can help you to understand the society you live in and as such become confident, articulate and opinionated. Whether you turn these skills into a career in the legal profession, teaching, politics or client relations is up to you. However, you can be sure that having studied history will ground you as an individual, such that whatever challenges face you in future, they will never rock your ambition.
