Course Summary

Studying a range of different areas including independent and mainstream US film, world cinema, film technology and British films; this one-year qualification enables you to extend your range of GCSE qualifications to progress to Level 3 courses.

You will develop your understanding of film texts, the film industry and film marketing through practical work, including the production of a film extract, as well as watching and analysing film scenes and carrying out independent internet research.

Working as part of a cohesive group, receiving tutorial support and study skills assistance from our specialist staff, you will build the foundations to enable you to be successful on a Level 3 study programme.

Course Details

Film Studies GCSE is an opportunity to develop your understanding of filmmaking, the film industry and film marketing. You will study a range of different areas including US film, world cinema, film technology and British films. Alongside this you will also produce practical coursework which includes the individual production of a film extract, accompanied by an evaluative analysis.

The course will involve working in different ways including internet research, watching and analysing film scenes, as well as extended written work.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

- 70% exam .

- 30% coursework.

Entry requirements

At least 3 GCSEs at Grade 4.

Grade 3 in GCSE English and GCSE Maths.

Students who have not achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English and/or GCSE Maths must retake these as part of their study programme.
