Course Summary
This course is designed to give you all the practical skills needed to become a dog grooming assistant. This course covers all of the essential aspects of preparing, bathing and drying of all breeds and coat types, as well as the health and safety and animal welfare required in a grooming salon.
Course Details
The programme content includes:
- Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
- Bathing and clean dogs
- Dry dogs and prepare a dog for styling
- Carry out trimming of a dogs coat to prepare for styling
- Move and Lift dogs
- Maintain the cleanliness and biosecurity grooming environment
- Professional Conduct
- Introduction to anatomical features, breed characteristics and behaviour of dogs
Full time learners will be in college but will have an external work placement hours from 60 hours within the year.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is completed via an external exam and practical assessments.
Entry requirements
You will need:
- 4 or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or higher
Or:
- A relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit grade
