Course Summary

The course is full-time and takes one year to complete.


The course consists of the following subjects in a variety of units:

• Working in a team

• Problem solving skills for work

• Working as a volunteer

• Planning for and taking part in a visit

• Introduction to self-employment

• Personal finances

• Improving own confidence

• Introduction to customer service skills

• Developing creative media skills

• IT user fundamentals

• Basic food prep and cooking

• Basic food hygiene

• Introduction to hair & beauty

• Maintaining healthy skin & nails


There is 30 hours mandatory work experience in a Business, Salon, Catering or Travel setting.


To achieve the NCFE Entry Level Occupational Studies for the Workplace (Entry 3), learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units as detailed in this qualification specification.

We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.

During your course you will be able to study for Functional skills maths and English and may have the opportunity to study GCS

Entry requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements, applicants should be enthusiastic and have an interest in the subject matter, have a willingness to learn and to be part of the college community.


In addition, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be completed during taster days and/or induction as part of the admissions process.

These qualifications are intended to be accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities.

Learners can develop a ‘hands-on’ approach to their learning and gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding in their chosen vocational area(s). The skills, knowledge and understanding gained may help learners prepare for work through real or simulated work situations and may contribute to preparing them for working life beyond education.


The NCFE Occupational Studies for the Workplace (Entry 3) qualifications are intended to give learners a solid base from which to further develop their skills and learning.

Learners may progress to a full Level 1 study programme the following year.
