Course Summary

The BTEC Sport courses allows for a broad basis of study for the sport sector. This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels. Within this course you will be exploring job opportunities in the sport industry, understanding how the body responds to exercise, carrying out fitness testing to apply to the components of fitness and exploring the benefits of fitness training to enhance sporting performance.

The activities you will be engaged in will be:

Theoretical lessons

Practical fitness testing lessons

Written assignments

Recorded interviews and evidence

Exploring how the body responds to sport and exercise

Developing skills and experience for jobs in the sport industry

Presentations to support your assignments

Mentoring and coaching of the younger years

Course Details

Year 12
Unit 1: Anatomy & Physiology (externally assessed unit)
Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry (coursework)
Unit 5: Fitness testing (coursework)

Year 13
Unit 1: Anatomy & Physiology (externally assessed unit)
Unit 2: Fitness training (externally assessed unit)

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Equivalent in size to one A Level.

Students will be graded using PASS, MERIT, DISTINCTION, DISTINCTION*

4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.

Mandatory content (83%)

External assessment (67%).

2/4 units are exams, 2/4 units are coursework

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs grade 4 or above including Merit in Sports Studies or grade 5 in PE
