Course Summary

Ever wondered if prison really does change criminal behaviour? Or why some people conform? Or perhaps if the experiences you had before the age of five really do shape the person you are today? A Level Psychology will give you an understanding of the way people think and why people behave in certain ways. You will learn a variety of skills including analytical thinking, improved communication, problem-solving and many more that will prepare you for an exciting future with the possibility of a range of fantastic careers.

This course is Science based and requires you to study and learn many theories and case studies that have explored human behaviour and how the brain works. It is fascinating, but will require a lot of reading and a good level of Biology and Chemistry.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Paper 1 – Written Paper: 2 hours (33.3%)

Paper 2 – Written Paper: 2 hours (33.3%)

Paper 3 – Written Paper: 2 hours (33.3%)

At A-level there are three exams, each account for one third of your A Level. The three exams last 2 hours and are worth 96 marks each. The exams consist of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions.

Entry requirements

To study Psychology at A Level, students should obtain at least 5 GCSE Grades 9 – 4 to include Grade 5 or above in Maths, Science and all English subjects entered.

As with all A Level subjects, students must be prepared to carry out a considerable amount of private study and attend support sessions when appropriate.

Equipment required

Psychology can work well alongside English, History, Biology, Maths or Sociology.
