Course Summary

This course is designed for students who have a keen interest in the world around them and our place in it. We focus on the ability to consider topics that relate to the real world, and to learn how to justify our arguments as well as evaluating and critiquing a variety of different approaches to the questions and dilemmas that we study.

Course Details

Philosophy of Religion - You will look at some of the biggest questions that humans have about reality, God and the beginnings of life and our universe. We will study philosophers such as Aristotle, Plato, Irenaeus, Wittgenstein, and many others.

Ethics - You will study ethical theories of a number of philosophers and look at how they can be applied in the world to real life situations. For example, euthanasia, business ethics and sexual ethics. Ethical theories we look at are Utilitarianism, Kantian Ethics, Situation Ethics, Natural Law.

Developments of Religious Thought - This is looked at from the perspective of Christianity as well as other religions. This will include the exploration of religious beliefs, values, teachings and how they have developed over time, and religious responses to challenges and significant contemporary social issues. Topics include Death and the afterlife, Gender, Liberation Theology etc.
