Course Summary

The A Level in Business is an excellent way for students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions. These skills will involve studying key topics such as digital technology, economic business issues, business finance ethics and globalisation using business models, theories and techniques to investigate key business issues. These skills are important as they are needed for further study and employment.

In addition to core business concepts, the content includes themes designed to reflect current and emerging trends, such as:

• the impact of digital technology across business functions

• customer relationship management

• productivity, performance and efficiency beyond manufacturing

• quality of products and services, including delivery, complaints and customer experience

• supply chain transparency, codes of conduct and third-party audits

• environmental impact of operational decisions

• equality, diversity, belonging and inclusion

• developing people: purpose, value and challenges of acquiring, managing and developing talent

• employee wellbeing, including mental health and flexible working

• environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting

• ethical issues in today’s business landscape

• disruptive technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).


How will it be delivered and assessed?

  • Regular attendance to taught sessions
  • Completion of out of lesson learning which will include pre-reading and reading around the subject
  • The ability and willingness to work with other students
  • Attendance to intervention sessions, where necessary

This is a two-year course, which includes a work experience placement in each year of the course. Detailed support is provided in helping you to select and arrange a work experience placement which supports this and other aspects of your programme of study.

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE Grades 9 - 5 to include English and Maths; and Grade 5 or above in GCSE Business (where studied)
