Overview

Our A-Level in Sociology will provide you with a sound understanding of central aspects of sociological thought and methods and the opportunity to develop a range of skills.

Details

It allows the integration of sociological themes, such as socialisation, culture and identity and social differentiation, power and stratification. A key aim of sociology is to encourage students to develop a critical awareness of society. You will follow a programme which combines class teaching with small group work, discussion, video material, IT and research projects.

How will it be delivered?

Students will follow a programme which combines class teaching with small group work, discussion, video material, IT and research projects. Students will complete three examinations over the duration of the course, each carrying a weight of 33% of their overall final result/grade.

  • Paper 1: Education with Theory and Methods. This is a 2 hour written exam out of 80 marks.
  • Paper 2: Topics in Sociology This is a 2 hour written exam out of 80 marks.
  • Paper 3: Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods. This is a 2 hour written exam out of 80 marks.

Entry requirements

For the generic A-Level Programme you will need:

  • GCSE grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths, plus at least 3 more GCSEs at grade 5 or above

For this specific A-Level you will need:

  • GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths, Grade 5 or above in English Language and at least 3 others at grade 5 or above
