Our A-Level in Physics will help build on your previous science study, with problem solving, experimentation and interpreting data.


Your study will involve a combination of practical exercises and theory, and will be taught in a well-equipped laboratory by our industry-trained staff. You will study: 

  • Charge and current 
  • Forces in action 
  • Waves and photos 
  • Medical imaging and electromagnetism 
  • Nuclear and particle physics

How will it be delivered?

The course will be assessed by two 2.15 hours examinations, one 1.30 hour examination and a practical assessment varied with formal lessons and practical work supported by discussions, video, ICT and Physics workshops.

Year 1 

  • Module 1: Development of Practical Skills in Physics 
  • Module 2: Foundations of Physics
  • Module 3: Forces and Motion
  • Module 4: Electrons, Waves and Photons

Year 2

  • Module 5: Newtonian World and Astrophysics
  • Module 6: Particles and Medical Physics

Entry requirements

For the generic A-Level Programme you will need: 

  • GCSE grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths, plus at least 3 more GCSEs at grade 5 or above

For this specific A-Level you will need:

  •  GCSE grade 4 or above in English Language, Grade 6 or above in Maths and Physics (6-5 in Combined Science) at least 2 others at grade 5 or above
