How will it be delivered?
Year 1 - Media Representations and Responses - 2.5 hour written exam (50%).*
You will answer three compulsory questions, including one question on unseen audio-visual or print based material. Units you will be studying include:
- Introduction to media and theory framework
- Representation of events and society
- How to read a text, print and audio/visual
- Film and Media theory
- Media Production and Processes
- Investigation and set texts in Advertising
- Film industry
- Music Video
- Magazines
- Newspapers
- Planning for coursework production
Year 2 - Media: Text, Industry and Audience - 2.5 hour written exam (50%).
You will answer three questions (30 marks per question). Section A will require you to answer one question from a choice of two. Section B will require you to answer two questions from a choice of four. Candidates must answer each question on a different media industry. Students will follow a programme which combines class teaching with small group work, discussion, media production, audio/visual material, IT and research projects. Units you will be studying include: Audience response and reception. Different media industries. Media, text and audience. Media investigation and production. Learner chosen production, audio/visual such as a film trailer, music video or print-based, such as magazine creation.
Entry requirements
For the generic A-Level Programme you will need:
- GCSE grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths, plus at least 3 more GCSEs at grade 5 or above
For this specific A-Level you will need:
- GCSE grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths, Grade 5 or above in Media if taken (if Media not taken then grade 5 or above in a relevant supporting subject such as English Literature, ICT, Photography, Art or Drama) and at least 2 others at grade 5 or above
