Overview

Do you love solving problems and being creative? Or maybe you keep coming up with great ideas for new things? If so, studying Design Technology will allow you to build up your creativity, problem solving, planning, and making skills. You will gain a valuable understanding of the design process through a range of practical making tasks within our purpose built studios and use our industry standard equipment such as a 3D printer and laser cutters. You will be introduced to computer aided design to support you with your creative journey through the course. You will be taught by specialist teaching staff and have the opportunity to work alongside professionals from the Design industry. 

Students studying Design and Technology can progress to university courses or apprenticeships in architecture, interior design, graphic design, furniture and product design, fashion & textiles design, 3D design as well as a range of other career paths. 

Design and Technology goes well with art, as well as science and technology subjects, including physics, maths, chemistry and IT. When it comes to the sciences, having knowledge of how physical and chemical processes work can come in handy when designing different products.

How will it be delivered?

- 50% exam .

- 50% coursework.

Entry requirements

At least 7 GCSEs at Grade 4 including GCSE English and  GCSE maths. 

Grade 5 in GCSE Design and Technology if taken.

Your next steps...

Studying Design and Technology at this level can lead to further studies or careers in, architecture, graphic design, furniture and product design, textiles, fashion design, engineering and set design. To support further study within the creative industries we offer a Level 4 Art Foundation course.
