Overview

This highly creative and successful course offers a broad based art experience that encourages you to work in ways that are personally fulfilling and therefore enables you to achieve your potential. The course is delivered through a series of taught practical and independent workshops. You will be taught by specialist teachers who are practising Fine Artists and Designers and have experience in professionally marketing and selling their work.

The course structure is designed to develop and enrich you as an artist or designer. You will be supported in gaining skills through a series of integrated critical practical and theoretical workshops that will challenge and extend your experience and understanding of art and design. You will practice as you start to produce a practical portfolio of work that reflects your expression of ideas and feelings through the skilful manipulation of visual language and materials.

We currently offer the following three specialist pathways: Fine Art, Graphic illustration and Fashion with textiles. Fashion and textiles also have the opportunity to explore textiles for interiors.

Details

The course structure is designed to develop and enrich you as an artist or designer. You will be supported in gaining skills through a series of integrated critical practical and theoretical workshops that will challenge and extend your experience and understanding of art and design practice as you start to produce a practical portfolio of work that reflects your expression of ideas and feelings through the skilful manipulation of visual language and materials.

Graphic Illustration 

You will explore effective and innovative ways of producing visual communication ideas.

You will experiment with a wide range of traditional and contemporary techniques through drawing, printmaking, digital photography, silk screen printing, painting and collage within practical taught studio sessions, alongside acquiring an extensive knowledge and ability to create visual digital images that explore a narrative or create a message. You will respond to inspiration from both the natural and built environment.

How will it be delivered?

  • 40 % exam .
  • 60 % coursework .
  • Practical Portfolio: The portfolio will consist of a sustained practical assignment with supporting contextual research the assignment demonstrates; research, ideas development, refinement and final solution.
  • Related Study: This consists of written and where appropriate illustrated work of 1500 words. The written work reflects the context of the practical portfolio work.
  • Controlled Assignment: You will produce work in response to an externally set task. You will demonstrate research skills and the acquisition of media techniques. A final piece will be realised in 15 hours of supervised time.

Entry requirements

At least 7 GCSEs at Grade 4 including GCSE Maths and GCSE English.

Grade 5 in GCSE Art.

We offer an exciting Level 4 1 Year Art Foundation course which is designed to enable you to further explore your creativity.

A number of our students go on to study at degree level such as History of Art at the University of Kent, Textile Design at Norwich University of the Arts (NUA), Graphic Design at NUA, Architecture at Leeds University and Conservation of Cultural Heritage at Lincoln University.
