This course is for young people aged 16 who have the enthusiasm to continue with their learning and require help and support to achieve their potential.
The course enables learners to develop important vocational skills, including practical and theory-based sessions in cooking, hospitality, horticulture and conservation. In addition, mandatory units of health and safety, travel and PSD are also delivered. Class sizes are small and support is available both inside and out of sessions as appropriate. The programme also offers the opportunity to develop Maths and English skills at a level suitable to the individual. All learners will participate in an enterprise work readiness programme.
Assessment is ongoing and consistent throughout the academic year, this is evident via an initial screening process and then regularly via Learn.Learners are assessed on an individual basis by the tutor and through the verification of completed portfolio units. Learn allows for the learner to log in and view their progress and targets so they are always aware of their achievement to date.Three progress reviews and regular staff meetings ensure that the assessment and review process continues to map individual progression.
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, students are required to show a willingness to learn, participate in and develop skills in a college environment.Following an interview it is expected that the learner attend a taster session to determine suitability for the course and to ensure that their needs are met.
