Ever fancied yourself as a professional gamer? You will have the chance to investigate the computer games industry and its impact on technological and social trends, and to design and develop a computer game using C# and the Unity game engine.
This course is the equivalent of studying 1 A Level.
You will be investigating the Gaming and Cybersecurity industries providing an insight into two of the UKs two high growth Tech industries. In the course you will develop your coding and logical thinking skills, study how computer systems work, design and develop a computer game, and investigate security systems and encryption techniques.
- Year 1: You will start by exploring the logical and structured ways that computer systems process data, examine the features of effective computer programming, and analyse, develop and evaluate algorithms and computer code. You will then investigate the computer games industry and its impact on technological and social trends. You will also design and developing a computer game to meet client requirements.
- Year 2: You will study the fundamental principles of how computer systems work, including the role of hardware and software, the way components of a system work together and how data in a system is used. You will look at increasing vulnerability to cyberattacks focusing on the forms these may take and how they can be avoided. You will investigate encryption methods and use these to devise your own secure IT systems.

At least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 in a range of subjects including English. A grade 4 or equivalent is required in computing if taken at GCSE level. You need at least grade 5 in higher tier mathematics.
