Advanced NVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship in Hairdressing

What will you be working towards?
The course is for stylists who wish to gain a qualification that reflects an advanced level of hairdressing in creative and technical skills. The programme is for those people aged 16-18 or 19+ who have completed a Level 2. This programme is fully funded for 16-18 year olds, and partially funded for the 19+ age group. It will also be useful for those who may be seeking to develop their careers in training and supervisory management.
APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK - The Framework is made up of a number of components. In order to be successful you must complete and achieve all elements.
• MAIN NVQ
The full NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing at Level 3 comprising of units which specify the minimum levels of performance required to work as a qualified hairdresser and meet the credit requirements.
• FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Level 2 English
Level 2 Maths
• EMPLOYMENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND RIGHTS
This is assignment based evidence collection
• PERSONAL LEARNING AND THINKING SKILLS
You will perform services on models and work within Cambridge Regional College Salons and your place of professional work. You will need to buy a salon uniform, kit and a course book at the start of the programme.
The programme is delivered with a mix of learning styles, practical demonstrations by guest specialists from industry e.g. Wella colour correction & long hair specialists, group work, lectures and assignments.
How will it be delivered?
Being observed carrying out commercial activities mainly in the workplace.
Online exams and questioning of knowledge and understanding.
An electronic portfolio of supplementary or supporting materials e.g. projects, witness logs. Compiling a portfolio of your work undertaken during the year.
There will be an ongoing practical assessment throughout your course.
This Level 3 qualification is for Hairdressers with at least 2 years recent experience in all aspects of Hairdressing. To enrol, you MUST be employed over 30 hours per week in a salon, to start an Apprenticeship, please contact us should you need help in finding suitable employment. Apprentices are paid a wage by the employer. Your employer is required to give you a contract of employment, which will include holiday entitlement and all other benefits.
You will also need to have achieved the NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing or equivalent and be currently employed in a Hairdressing environment for 30 hours per week running a column of clients. Your clientele should provide you with the opportunities for Level 3 creative work.
Entry onto the L3 Apprenticeship Framework or standard requires 2 x C Grades / 2 x Grade 4 or above in Maths and English.
We currently offer pre apprenticeship courses for applicants, in Maths and English, to support learners wishing improve their grades to meet the entry criteria. Learners should have secured employment.
All applicants will be interviewed- this includes maths and English skills scan, a trade test and a formal interview.

The programme opens up career opportunities for employment in the management aspect of Hairdressing. There may be the possibility of Management Apprenticeships/Retail and Customer Service Apprenticeship Training/Assessing and Quality Assurance qualifications.
